Robot becomes Really useful!

PR2 serving beer (see link for video)

The images at the end of the page show some of what the robot ‘sees’)

Willow Garage is a company with lots of money. Their latest robot is the PR2, designed to be a personal helper. They have not only designed and built it but have given 11 of them to institutions who want to develop real personal helpers – think of the elderly and the disabled. WG has also written all the software and placed it in the public domain, i.e. free as in beer!

To buy one for yourself you need more than $US400,000. The aim is that over several generations of evolution, followed by mass production, the robots will be inexpensive enough for practical home use.

Sorry. Still getting used to controlling Blogger. I have no idea why this post came out in larger type.

Once again, sorry for the strange format of this post. I can't find a way to fix it. Perhaps I need a beer-serving robot!
